1. A container made of interwoven material, such as rushes or twigs. Bernice's basket was made from bamboo.
2. The amount that a basket can hold. She washed two baskets of clothes today.
3. Basketball. Either of two elevated goals, each consisting of a metal hoop from which an open-bottomed circular net is suspended. The ball went through the basket to win the game by two points.
