Beam

1. A ray or shaft of light. A beam of light shown across the floor.
2. A concentrated stream of particles or a similar propagation of waves. A beam of protons is used to light up a TV screen.
3. A squared-off log or a large, oblong piece of timber, or stone used specifically as a horizontal support in construction. Several beams support our long deck.
