Boot

1. Protective footgear, as of leather or rubber, covering the foot and part or all of the leg. I wear boots when we go hiking.
2. A protective covering, especially a sheath to enclose the base of a floor mounted gear shift lever in a car or truck. The gear shift lever was covered with a cloth boot.
3. A marine or navy recruit in basic training. The boots were not allowed off the base.
4. An unceremonious dismissal, as from a job. The lazy lad was given the boot and left.
