Yellow River Dam Face, Lanzhou, Gansu

Some miles upstream on the Yellow River lies a large hydroelectric dam. We secured permission to visit the facility. In China you need permission to visit most everything. Because of our connection with the Chinese National Academy of Sciences, we could get the required permission. As we went through the checkpoint a group of Japanese tourists/scientists were trying to get permission but could not do so.
