Kunming Expo 1999

The international horticultural fair (called Expo 99) is over but the vast expo grounds, covering 538 acres, still are there. The park has kept the special exhibition gardens of bamboo, bonsai, herbs, trees, fruits, and teas. Five large exhibition halls also remain, foremost is the large circular courtyard Green House. Its chief display is a miniature Yunnan alpine landscape of native plants that thrive on the high plateau above 9,000 feet. The grounds also have other attractions, from a butterfly house, food plazas, viewing towers and an amusement park. We visited the Expo in 1999 as guests of the Guanghua Schools. We took this picture on that visit.
