Lake Dian Boatmen

Lake Dian (Dianchi), the sixth largest lake in China, measures some 30 miles across from north to south. A causeway divides the lake. The northern section has been dammed to serve as a massive sewage treatment facility. Pollutants have so poisoned the lake that few fishermen can make a living anymore. These boatmen now make their living ferrying building stone to projects around the lake.
