17. Bai People at Dragon Boat Races

The Bai Nationality people love to attend the Dragon Boat Races. Many people come out on the 5th day of the 5th Month of the lunar calendar to watch the races. It celebrates the heroic death of Qu Yuan who drowned himself in protest of the government in the Warring states Period (475-221 B.C.). The races mimic the heroic efforts of the fishermen who furiously raced in vain to rescue him. Many thousands of people celebrate these races all over China.
