Beijing Opera - "Tanshan Valley"

Deng Yi with a white pointed three-tile face plays in the opera "Tanshan Valley" adapted from an episode in Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Deng Yi (197-264) was a high-ranking general of Wei. In the opera he is outwitted by Shu commander Jiang Wei and suffers a crushing defeat in Tanshan Valley. To memorize this great man, every Feb. 8th people gather together to celebrate the festival of Deng Yi.
