Guizhou Province
Translation "Expensive Place" Guizhou Province is the poorest province in China. Guizhou means "Expensive Place" in English. Ninety percent of Guizhou is mountainous. The province is plagued by its isolated location, poor infrastructure and poor communications. Guizhou has large deposits of coal but its neighbors find it cheaper to import coal from Africa and Australia. It is not a popular tourist spot but my wife and I spent a pleasant week in the capital city of Guiyang. |
