Deteriorated Section of the Great Wall

Much of the Great Wall has badly deteriorated. Some sections of the Great Wall are hard to distinguish without aerial observation. Those parts of the Great Wall is the 2,500-year-old portions and made of tamped earth. The portion near Beijing at Badaling has been restored for the tourists. In the 1950s the Eighth Route Army used much of the wall for its barracks. In the 1980s they were sent back to dismantle their barracks and rebuild the wall.
