15. Battlements on the Wall

You can see the battlements every hundred yards or so. If an enemy scaled the wall they had to contend with soldiers fighting from the forts. If the attackers succeeded in scaling the wall, the defenders could retreat to the guard towers. These guard towers were only accessible by retractable ladders.
