Getting into the station amounted to long, long lines waiting to have their luggage passed through x-ray machines. The inside was unbelievably crowded. Virtually no English signs directed us where to go. A friend arrived that we had called and helped us negotiate our way. My friend in Baoding (about 10 km away) had phoned a friend who worked in the ticket office so we had 6 beds on the bottom bunk saved for us. Here our friend helps us check our luggage to be stored safely in lockers until we board the train some 5 hours later.
