44. Chinese Coolie Cart Puller

This young man makes his living pulling a handcart loaded with concrete slabs. He is pulling about 400-500-pound load. The Chinese word for this type of workman is "Ku Li". It is where we have stolen the word we know as coolie. Many Chinese men strive to get an education so they can achieve much better jobs. Education is very highly valued in China. The very best of them come to the USA for advanced degrees. While many of these advanced students don't go back to China, many do. Deng Xiaoping when asked about this loss, said, "We have many, we can afford to lose some."
