Octagon Theater

The 581st Radio Relay Company in Japan (1950)

20. The Octagon Theater

The Army Group stationed in Japan is the Eighth Army. Hence the theater is the Octagon. Notice the Eighth Army insignia on the top of the theater. They showed American movies there each night. I often went there to see movies. Notice also the lack of auto traffic on the streets. There were no taxis in the city but many Japanese men operated rickshaws for your use. The charge was not high and we often took them. Sometimes we would have races. Could your rickshaw man get to where you were going sooner then the other guy? The rickshaw winner got the wager money.
