Kumi Village Welcomes the President Elect Ike

These pictures were taken in Kumi when "Ike" fulfilled his presidential candidacy promise to visit Korea and stop the war. Banners were strung; citizens, elders and school kids marched.  The whole village turned out but I don't think "Ike" showed up. Many times the GIs had to help them spell out the signs. We were always happy to help. The Korean words on the banner say, "Huan Yung I E Ku" the best they could pronounce Ike.
