Richmond Relay Station Richmond Relay - 1969-70 36. On ALERT with Microwave Van and VHF Truck

Sometime in June 1969 during one of the Alerts and while I was stationed at Richmond Site, I was instructed to travel to K-6 at Pyongtek and pick up a mobile microwave van. After that I would go into the field with another signal battalion (304th EUSA) and provide the long-line communications for them. There were other microwave radio repairmen from other sites on TDY assignment too. We set up a duty schedule and we worked in pairs and stayed in the field with the radios and van 24 hrs each then rotated back to Camp. Humphries at K-6 for a day.

The radio site at K-6 was called Crown Microwave Site. It provided us signalmen working in the van with a bed on our rotation day and a driver to get us to and from the field. Beyond that we were on our own out there and had to learn our way around by our self. The field kitchen tent was about 1/2 mi. away from our Big Guns as that's what other signal units called our microwave system.
