Tacoma Relay Station Tacoma Relay - 1969-70 44. Driving up Tacoma Site

I finished my temporary duty at Pusan as an instructor and went back to Richmond Site. It was near the end of my year tour in Korea so I was going to be stationed states side for the remainder of my 3 year enlistment. I heard from other signalmen that I would most likely go to Fort Huachuca Arizona where STRATCOM Headquarters was located. There were a large number of signalmen returning from Vietnam at the time and many ended up at Ft. Huachuca washing trucks, standing formation and doing field exercises in the desert. This did not sound like the duty for me so I decided to extend my tour in Korea. I ended up getting a 4 month early out because of my extension overseas and because I also applied to go to college after discharge from the Army.

I am unclear as to the sequence of events that occurred after I went to a religious retreat in Seoul around Thanksgiving time. I returned to Richmond Site after a week and about Dec'69 I received my orders to go to Tacoma Site 10 and be the Assistant Site Chief and Radio Operations Sergeant. I was also given the chance to become Site Chief at a number of smaller VHF radio sites located throughout the company's area of responsibility but I wanted to be on an isolated site. The VHF stations were at various camps, compounds and larger installations and were just too big for me. One of these sites was named Tea-an-ni.
