South Korean Cultural Ecology - 1905 to 1990
J. Major Health Indices Medical Benefits have been available since the latter half of the 1970s, in the form of medical insurance and medical aid. This has been expanded to cover a substantial portion of the population. By 1985 the people covered by medical security was 21,838,000 or 50.6% of the total population. By 1995 the coverage is expected to reach 95% of the population. The health of the Korean people has improved substantially. The rate of infection has gradually declined, but the loss of manpower caused by disease is not small. Medicine is being used at an increasing rate and has contributed to the cost of medical care. Work is being done to better provide medical care to doctorless remote villages. |
