South Korean Liberation Day Picnic Picnic, Eugene, Oregon, August 10, 2002 On August 10th, the Korean Community in Eugene invited all the local Korean Veterans to a picnic at Armitage Park in Eugene. Both my wife and I attended and had a wonderful day. Feasting on some wonderful food, Kimchi, barbequed beef and many other delicacies we stuffed ourselves. I had not eaten Kimchi for some 52 years. They sang the Korean National Anthem in Korean (Chosin Aguka). I even remembered the words and was able to sing them aloud with the Koreans. And that after 52 years, I could still recall them. One of the members of the Korean Community gave a speech on why we celebrate this liberation day. I have included a copy of his speech slightly edited that you can read.
