Chinese Dead 1st Marine Div 7th Marines 3rd Battalion Page 1
124th Infantry Division has the Following Units
370th, 371st, and 372nd Infantry Regiments

The 124th engaged in action against 7th Marine Regiment south of Sudong 2-3 November. They were badly cut up in attacks of 3 to 6 November. General Lin Biao commanded this Division and later becomes a Chinese Marshal in 1955. This was his only defeat in his military career. Later in 1971 he attempted to assassinate Chairman Mao. Discovered he fled to Outer Mongolia and died in the crash of his plane. The Chinese insist that General Lin Biao did not enter the Korea War. The Marine Corp insist he did. I believe he did not enter the Korean War. He pled illness and went to Russia.

Major Maurice Roach's 3rd Battalion fanned out in a horseshoe formation: H Company was in the hills on the left; I Company was on the hills on the right; and back a short distance was G Company astride on the road. When the Chinese discovered the marines on the road north, the 124th was quickly shifted to the hills around Sudong to confront them.
