Epic of Fox Hill -- Page 4
By PFC Donald L. Childs, 1st Squad, 2nd Platoon, F/2/7 US Marines
The Fight Continues The 2nd Platoon, under Lt. Elmer Peterson, the third platoon leader since arriving in Korea, ably set up a line of defense along the base of some small trees which grew on part of the hill facing west. Yudam-ni.

Norman Jackson Jr., an excellent BARman and I were assigned a position a few yards above the upper end of the ridge of boulders. This gave Jackson a field of fire on either side of the boulders. To the left and below, we could see the huts, jeeps (now shot out), and the road which turned away from the hill and extended west several hundred yards then turned south over the crest of the pass and on to Hagaru. To our right we looked down on an open plowed field which extended from the base of the steep slope of the hill to the road. The road directly to our front was about 100 yards and was hidden from view by an eight foot high cut which shielded the road bed as it skirted the field to our right. Some 300 to 400 yards to our right, the road turned right towards Yudam-ni.
