Marines Stories from the Chosin Reservoir, 1950
Incoming Fire?
Charles McKellar US Marine, 1/7/A
Like so many other nights, this was cold and crisp. The company was strung out across the valley at Yudam-ni. The move had come about quickly after intelligence sources predicted that this was to be the night the enemy would come down the valley to divide the Marine troops

As the stillness of the night surrounded us, we of Able 7th Marines, huddled in our makeshift foxholes in anticipation of the attack. As the NCO's, and officers moved among the troops, the crunch of their footsteps seemed to echo of the surrounding hills.

The sound of bugles and the flash of fire could be heard from time to time as the enemy probed the hills to our right rear. The sound served to galvanize our minds as the adrenalin surged to meet the expected challenge.
