Brown-Headed Cowbird

Common on farmland, often feeding in mixed flocks with Red-wings, Brewer's or Common Grackles. The plain mouse-gray female lays its speckled egg in the nests of other species, especially warblers, vireos, and sparrows. Song is a thin whistle, 4-7 minutes. These guys, male and female stay around and visit daily. We find eggshells they have pitched out of nests nearby. Freeloaders are everywhere, but all birds are welcomed.
