Common Goldeneye

Bucephala clangula - Common in lakes and rivers in forested country, where it nests in cavities or even nest boxes. Winters along the coast and on lakes and rivers. Note the round dark head, puffy crest, wing patch, and loud musical whistling of the wings. The male has a white facial spot, the female a white collar. Usually goldeneyes are in pairs or small flocks. Flight is very fast. When feeding, they prefer deeper water than bay ducks.
