Plums Plum Jam Recipe

6 Cups Prepared Plums (about 4 pounds)

To Prepare;
Discard pits but don't peel.
Finely Chop plums.
Place chopped plums and 1/2 cup water in a saucepan.
Bring to a boil.
Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 5 minutes.

8 Cups Sugar
1 Sure Jell Pectin

Above will make about 5 pints of jam

Measure sugar and keep ready.
Mix pectin with fruit.
Add a Pat of butter/margarine to hinder foam.
Bring to a hard rolling boil using high heat.
At once add sugar stirring until dissolved.
Bring to a full hard rolling boil (a boil that cannot be stirred down). Boil hard for one minute.
Remove from heat and stir to reduce foam.
Put quickly into jars leaving 1/4-inch headspace.
Clean rim and seal with 2-piece lids.
Water bath in boiling water or steam canner for 10 minutes for pints.
Remove and set on newspapers ot towels to cool.
It should set in 24 hours.
The next day remove rings and wash jars.    Store with rings off.
