16 Steps to Canning Applesauce Step 9, Put Apples thru Sieve Here we use the siever to mash evenly the applesauce, We fill up the siever with the steamed apples and using the wooden roller we roll it back and forth to get the apples into a smooth sauce. The siever came from Bernice's mother and Paul welded the stand for it so we could put a large bowl under it. When the bowl is full we pour it into a large pot.
