The funnel helps to get your fruit into the jar with a minimum of spillage. The tongs will help Bernice get the hot lids out of the boiling water without burning her hands. I use the towel to handle the hot jars from the boiling water and also when the jars are full of boiling hot applesauce. The small damp rag Bernice uses to wipe the rim of the jar before sealing. We don't have a failure in sealing in canning several hundred jars in a year.
