Step 6, Filling the Jar

When Bernice has completed enough halves to fill a jar, she fills up a jar sliding the pears down using a kitchen knife. Place them in the jar small end down. As soon as Bernice has filled a jar Paul fills the jar with hot light syrup. This timing prevents discoloring as much as possible. Bernice then slides a knife down the side of the jar to allow any air to escape.
