Measure Shortening

I remember the first time I made cookies. Mom, how do you measure shortening? I was about 6. I still remember she told me to put 2 cups of water into a four cup measuring cup. Then put in shortening until the water level comes up to the 4 cup level. I thought that was so simple. Moms are so clever. Just make sure you push the shortening below the surface and then pour off the water.
