Ron (Dave) Hoyt - My Stay at the Lark Ellen Home for Boys - 1958-1961- Page 3

After almost five years in England I returned to the states to work in the painting trade. Eventually I rejoined my former Christian friends in the San Francisco Bay area who had started a church called 'Church of the Open Door'. My first wife who was still in the cult and I divorced. We had two girls and a boy. Continuing to paint I worked part time for the church and eventually remarried Ginny and we've been together for 33 years. While with the Open Door Ministries we led Christian teams into several juvenile halls, a city jail and an honor farm. On a church related venture we returned to England for a season but eventually settled in the city of Glen Cove on Long Island, New York. Our two youngest daughters were born there.

Studying for the Ministry: Then it was off to Ashland, Ohio to complete undergraduate requirements and enter a master of divinity program at Ashland Theological Seminary. During school Ron worked part time painting and later as a student-pastor. For the last quarter of seminary he was accepted as a chaplain-intern and completed a 400 hour program at Licking Memorial Hospital in Newark, Ohio. Ron graduated seminary in 1986 with a Masters of Divinity in Pastoral Ministry. During seminary years Ron took part in an educational trip to Jordan, Israel and Egypt.

Over the next eight years he served as a pastor in two churches, four years each, while continuing to lead Christian teams in ministry to 'troubled kids, teens and young adults'. During the years that followed he wrote a book for troubled youth which has been placed in numerous youth correctional institutions. It's entitled, "Lonesome Stone - Wars of the Soul" and is available on Amazon.com.

During the 23 years that Ron and Ginny spent in Ohio, Ginny worked for a Christian Missionary Board assisting American and international missionaries from many countries of the world. She also assisted in fund raising and securing sponsor donors for several orphanages in India. During these years in Ohio, Ron and Ginny were a host family for many international students who attended the local University. Up until the time of moving to New Mexico they both co-led a weekly Sunday worship service at an area Detention Center.
