Japanese Barberry

Barberis thunbergii - They are deciduous and hardy to -20 F. Graceful growth habit with slender arching, spiny branches. Densely foliaged with roundish, 1/2 to 1 1/2 inch leaves, deep green above, paler beneath, turning to yellow, orange and red before they fall. Bead like, bright red berries stud branches in fall and through winter. We have planted five of these in the front yard.
