Common Sweet Cicely

Osmorhiza berteroi Common, late spring-early summer, perennial, 1-4 ft. Stems erect, 1to few branches above midstem. Leaves hairy, numerous, held horizontally, 2-6 in. long, twice pinnately segmented into threes. Leaflets widely egg-shaped, 1-3 in. long, toothed or lobed. Long leafless flowers stalk 2-10 in. Flowers tiny, inconspicuous, greenish white. Black seed is needle-shaped, with tail on end, and bristles that sometimes catch on clothing. Grows in open forests, shaded woodlands, at low to high elevations
