Flowers Growing at our Home

Red-flowering Currant

Ribes sanguineun - This plant showed up in 2002 at the rear of our RV building. It is a harbinger of spring. Its blooms, appearing in March and April signal the end of winter and the beginning of summer. It grows along forest borders and old logged areas (where it is often found growing on an old stump) as well as on partly re-forested dune areas from British Columbia to central California. The pale pink to deep rose-colored flowers are only one-fourth to one-half inch long; however because they are in pendant clusters about 4 inches long, the mass can be quite conspicuous.
