Gloxina

Flowers Growing at our Home

Gloxina

Sinningia speciosa (Gloxinia speciosa) This beautiful plant was a Father's Day gift from my wife, Bernice. Tuber. House plant. Flowers are spectacular -- large velvety, bell shaped, ruffled on edge. Some flowers have dark spots or blotches, others have contrasting bands at the flower rims. Colors come in blue, purple, violet, pink, red, or white. Water sparingly until first leaves appear; increase watering after roots form. Apply water around the base of plant, never on leaves. After bloom has finished, gradually dry off plants and store tubers in cool dark place with just enough moisture to keep them from shriveling or store tubers, soil and all, in pots until new growth starts. Repot in January - February.
