Heal-all

Flowers Growing at our Home

Heal-all

Prunella vulgaris (Mint Family) Heal-all or self-heal, is a perennial herb, historical credited to have healing powers when taken as a tonic. The opposite leaves are narrowly egg-shaped or lance-shaped, have stalks, and extend upward to the colorful, dense cluster of flowers. The stems are typically clustered and may stand erect or spread over the ground. The purplish flowers are individually very ornate. The upper lip of the fused flowers resembles a bonnet; the lower lip consists of a large central lobe and two smaller central lobes, the landing pad for a foraging bumblebee. It can be a troublesome but an attractive weed. Our beauties grow in our pasture.
