Jimsonweed

Datura stramonium - The leaves and stem release an unpleasant odor when crushed. Stem s up to 2 m tall, rise from thick, shallow roots. The smooth stems are thick, 3-6 cm in diameter, and are branched near the top. Stems are often purplish green. Flower white or purplish, trumpet-shaped, 5-12 cm long and 5 cm across, are borne singly in the axils of leaver. The flowers are composed of 5 sepals fused into a tube, 5 united petals, 5 stamens, and a single pistil. The funnel-shaped corolla has 5 points. A single plant may produce up to 50 fruit. Jimsonweed is a noxious weed and all parts of the plant are very poisonous. Fruit is a spiny capsule containing 500-600 seeds. A plant can produce up to 35,000 seeds. Nonnative. We have pulled out our specimen after pictures.
