Syringa hyacinthiflora Deciduous schrubs, rarely small trees. Best where winter brings pronounced chill. All like alkaline soil. Flower buds for next year form in pairs where leaves join stems. After bloom, remove spent flower clusters just above points where buds are formimng. In the past the deer have eaten all the flowers. We appreciate the deer saving this bloom for us. It just was too high for them to eat..
