Wild Mint

Flowers Growing at Our Home

Wild Mint

Mentha arvensis A fragrant herb, wild mint can be found in the deflation plains of the Clatsop Spit and in other mashes and damp spots along the coast. The leafy stems are 10 to 20 inches tall and the round clusters of pale purple flowers are tucked in the axils of leaves along the upper portion of the plant. This mint occurs across most of North America. You can smell the minty fragrance of this plant as you approach it. An even stronger scent is obtained if you crush a leaf. Take a stem in your fingers and try to roll it, it is square and not round. These grow along the ditch aside Pierland Lane leading up to our house.
