Flowers Growing at Our Home

Ocean Spray

Holodiscus discolot (Rose Family) - Also called arrow-wood and crean-brush. Closely resembling the foam thrown on shore by the stiff winds of a coastal storm, ocean spray is well-known by its thick plume of tightly clustered white flowers. A scrub of 3 to 20 feet tall, it has wedge-shaped simple leaves. Ocean spray blooms from May through July and is abundant on coastal bluffs, along streams, and in open woods. It grows from British Columbia through California and east in the mountains to western Montana. Ours grow along the souther fringes of out woodland pastures.
