California Poppy

Flowers Growing at our Home

California Poppy

Eschscholtzia californica - A smooth, bluish-green plant with several stems, fern-like leaves, and usually orange flowers borne singly on a long stalk. Responsive to sunlight, the flowers close at night and on cloudy days. The spicy fragrance attracts mainly beetles, which serve as pollinators. We have hundreds of these. They have been planted from seed and tend to reproduce in abundance. We love their color and as a reminder of our time in California.
