Flowers Growing at Our Home

Nootka Rose

Rosa Nutkana A thorny scrub with pale pink flowers. Flowers are 2-3" wide with 5 petals. Blooms in May to July. Grows in woodlands and open places in the mountains from Alaska to northern California, northeastern Oregon, northern Utah and Colorado. The hips, or fruit may be eaten and often used to make jam and jellies. Fairly common west of Cascades Mountains and the Sierra Nevada. We have many growing wild along our half-mile driveway. We mow around them.
