Shuksan Strawberry

Flowers Growing at Our Home

Shuksan Strawberry

A popular Oregon variety. Shuksan produces large glossy fruit, with bright, red tough skin. It is also good eaten fresh. Bernice's sister Barbara Ann Bush gave her this one for a birthday present. It hangs on our deck. We go out to Barbara's fields each year to pick our own strawberries. We freeze them for milkshakes to drink during the hot summer. This variety released in 1972, shows good virus resistance, excellent quality, and has low runner production. Climate Zones: 6 to 10. This variety especially suited to the Northwest. However, its winter hardiness makes it a good choice for most of the nation. It produces large crops every year. The fruit is of medium to large size, firm, dark red and has excellent flavor. It has been the top choice for years for a freezer berry and it is also tops for fresh eating. It ripens in late June.
