Madrone Arbutus menziesii Pursh Handsome evergreen tree with tall reddish-brown trunk and open, narrow rounded or irregular crown of stout, smooth red branches. Grows to heights of 80ft (24m). Native to western North America from British Columbia south to California. Named after its first discoverer Archibald Menzies who described it in 1792. We have a number of mature trees to heights of 60-80ft and dozens of small trees. If you have a Madrone tree, treasure it. It is exacting in requirements. It must have fast drainage and non-alkaline water. They are easy to spot with their red trunk. On to Next TreeHi-Res Pic (259K) |
