Landon's 4H Presentation "A Chicken Dinner" Landon's "A Chicken Dinner" After we moved to Fairview Avenue up on the hill above Hayward, California, because we had several acres, we acquired some livestock. We had chickens, geese, sheep, bees and two cats. The boys joined 4H and Paul became a 4H leader. The boys both joined the sheep project, and some others. One thing that 4H emphasizes is making presentations before an audience. Each member is encouraged to give a presentation at which they are judged and graded. I encouraged them both to do these presentations. I think that it is important for kids to learn the skills to give a speech before and audience. It is a skill that will suffice them in good standing for the rest of their life. |

What Should a Chicken Eat? Landon chose to give a speech on "A Chicken Dinner." I thought it was a clever idea to fool the audience about the subject. It was not about eating a chicken but what a chicken needed to eat for good nutrition. Landon gave an excellent speech about the type of feed a chicken needed to lay good eggs for a long time. He was most serious about his presentation and researched the topic well. He got a red ribbon for his efforts. Later in life I saw in him some of those same things as he assumed seriously the job as Sunnyvale City Councilman and later as Vice-Mayor. Landon was always a serious learner and has done well in his endeavors. Whatever he chose to do he always did his best and that well. |
