Blue Buttons (Grand Hound's Tonque)

Cynoglossum grande Locally common, early spring, perennial, 2-3 ft. Erect, often single, hairless stem. Leaves lance- to heart-shaped, smooth above, hairy below. Basal leaves 3-6 in. long, 1-4 in. wide, abruptly narrowing to petioles3-6 in. long; few smaller leaves on lower stems. Flowers blue in panicle atop bare stem. Flowers have 5 conspicuous white raised nubs in central ring. Grows in lightly shaded, open mixed woods at low to mid elevations. Native.
