Creeping Buttercup

Rannunculus repens - A perennial herb, creeping buttercup regularly inhabits moist places. The plants are rather succulent and hairy. The leaves and brilliant yellow flowers make this one of our most attractive buttercups. The petals are so shiny they look varnished. As is typical of buttercups, the flowers have numerous stamens and pistils. A European species now widely distributed throughout North America, it invades meadows, lawns, and gardens. We see these lovely wildflowers in our woodland pastures.
