Dwarf Lupine

Lupinus lepidus var. lobbii - Locally common, late spring- early summer, perennial, 4-6 in. Woody-based low plant covered with silvery silky hairs. Leaves with long petioles crowded at base, palmately divided into 5-7 leaflets, each about 1/3 in. long. Flower stalks spreading to upright, topped with crowded flower clusters, 1 in. long, usually 1/2 as wide. Flowers 1/3 in., blue or purplish, with white patch on upper petal. Seedpods covered with silky hairs. Grows on mountain sides in talus or pumice at high elevations. Native.
