Common Mallow

Wildflowers Found in Oregon

Common Mallow (Cheeseweed, Buttonweed)

Malva neglecta - This annual to short-lived perennial has a long and tough taproot. The extensive branched stems spread over the ground. The leaves have long stalks and roundish to broadly heart-shaped blades that are coarsely toothed and shallowly lobed. Common Mallow, introduced from Europe, has now spread throughout North America. It can be a tenacious weed in gardens and lawns and is a regular inhabitant of waste areas. Ours can be seen out in our woodlands in the shadows under the trees.
