Oregon Grape
(Tall Oregon Grape, Shining Oregon Grape,
Oregon Grapeholly, Hollyleaved Barberry)

Mahonia aquifolium - - Native British Columbia to northern California. It is the state flower of Oregon. It grows to 6 feet or more. It spreads by underground stems. Leaves are 4-10 inches long with spines like holly. Flowers in 2-3 inch long clusters, March-May. They have edible blue black fruit with a gray bloom (makes good jelly). Many of these are growing in our woodland pasture. We have some at least 10 feet high. Native.
