Mountain Owl-Clover

Orthocarpus imbricatus - Uncommon, midsummer, annual, 4-14 in. Single stem, straight or branched near top. Leaves narrow, pointed, slightly hairy. Flower head dense, with broad rounded bracts lobed on each side, green with showy purplish pink tips. Flowers hairy, white or yellow below, purplish pink near tip., beak with noticeable round hooked tip. Grows in dry meadows, rocky slopes or outcrops, at high elevations. Native.
